'Butter wouldn't melt' consists of a stream of magazine scans that have their origin in the world of eroticism. Although it is clear what the images are pointing at, the editors have chosen to use a colorful star to cover the 'adult content'. Due to the stroboscopic video effect, the star now flickers happily in the middle of the screen. It hypnotizes. It sucks you in. The music (composed by Andrew Sunderland) builds up towards an orgasmic climax. But it takes too long. And you realize: it cannot be achieved. You will never be released. The sound that you are hearing is a Shepards tone, an auditory illusion of a tone that continually ascends in pitch, yet which ultimately seems to get no higher. You are stuck in the loop.
