Erebus
There used to be a small but beautiful blue rock somewhere within the vast void of the universe. Life appeared on its crust relatively fast and as usual through out the evolution, one of the species dominated the rest, by forming complex societies to overcome its primordial survival needs. The dominant inhabitants progressed technologically, excelled in many different fields within their closed society and managed to build establishments on every corner of the planet's terrain. But during the process of solving these initial problems and building their dream utopia, more problems would arise faster than before, making their daily lives gradually more and more complicated. The time came when their overcomplicated society demanded so much devotion, that they stopped questioning other, more fundamental issues. It was then, when they even stopped looking up the sky. The sky that used to inspire and guide them will now bring them disaster and Erebus.

I posted this on motiongraphics.nu.
Hope you're fine with that.
I love the low-poly triangles in the shockwave!
DOPE.
sattanaathan... it's pure 3D animation, with a lot of 2D compositing work. There are loads of details I can get into, but I'll need loads of time and space to explain everything. I'll be more than happy to answer a more specific question if you have.

I also noticed that the sound was very good (and this seems quite seldom in animation videos I've seen).
kai ago posted it on our website:

Αν και δεν ακούω metal, η μπάντα σου ακούγεται super.
@ Neil - sound is a mostly Reason4 malestrom synth but also reason4 tricky sampler triggered by arpegiator thru tight delay. and then add some samples and a lot of timestretching...
@ iamKeir - the surface of the meteor has a lot of distortion going on by design, and actually yeah listening to it again there is a fair bit of distortion to roughen it up a touch but it shouldn't sound too crazy.
Nicely done Georgios!

Do you think it would be possible to get a 1920x1200 wallpaper of the point where the two planets are colliding? Or the biggest you can make it if you don't have anything in that resolution.
also can u help me with the plug-in or program you used to make the glow effects as i am searching for a nice one to add to my workflow ?
and aslo the destruction part what destruction method you used ?
and thank u ..
3D is all in Maya. In a few sentences, the collision was done with with layering various animations techniques. Key animation for the main transform, deformers for the squash, a procedural wave done with soft body particle expressions and on top another soft body with actual dynamics. All these retimed in 3d before rendering.
I'll be writing a more technical document about the production of the animation, which I'll post here soon. So stay tuned.
Thanks for your comment!
This is our new & fresh social network & video portfolio's website for filmmakers. It would be great if you would join in.

Great Job ! : )
All the photos on ch3.gr are with a film SLR. Photos of the bike trip can be found at blog.ch3.gr which were taken with a small digital camera.
How are things with you? Are you still in the Uk, or back on the slopes?
a visual pleasure...
1:44 -> 1:55 Great piece...
I red an interview of you on cgsociety weeks ago, and today I had the pleasure to watch your animation.
