First chance I've had in a few weeks to spend some time chilling out with the family, the kids had some bubble blowers and after seeing the lovely colours in the bubbles I decided it was time to dust of the EX1 and capture some moments.

All shot at 720/25p cranked to 60, edited in Final cut and Magic Bullet Looks applied to flavour.

Music: Rage Man
Artist: Mogwai

Man your Video Rocks! Love the dogs/bucket/slide all awesome. Whats this "overcracking" thing about, I'm guessing thats it about adding frames to give slow mo look. Is there a tut on the web about the concept you could point me to? Cheers D

I especially love the ending. The bubble, the dogs running by and the wonderful music exactly in right moment.

  • Cameron Christopher 4 months ago
I agree with Grzegorz; the ending was really well put together.. the bubble blowing away, and the music and grass flying.

Awesome song choice and awesome visuals (and memories, I'm sure).

Very nicely done Paul. Even though I tend to be one that likes less processing in post... I think it looks fantastic. Mr. Bloom better watch out... I'd put this one up against his work anyday. Keep up the great work... I've liked your stuff since the faucets.

Vehdy niice. Can you explain this more...

All shot at 720/25p cranked to 60, edited in Final cut and Magic Bullet Looks applied to flavour.

720 pixels/in, 25 frames/sec, cranked to 60 frames/sec??? in fcp? ...Magic Bullet Looks applied to flavour????

    Much love.
  • Paul Joy 3 months ago
720/25p means the resolution of the camera was 1280x720, the framerate was 25 frame per second and it was shot using progressive move (p).

Cranked to 60 means it was shot at a faster rate than it plays back, so it's recorded at 60 frames a second, and when played back at 25 it's a little less than half speed (slowmo)

Final Cut is an editing app, and magic bullet is used to colour correct the video and apply effects.

    Hope that helps

    Paul.

Really Good! The parts with the dogs running up the slide and the close up of the bubble were AMAZING. 2 Q's: What was the font from the titles and what were the settings you used in look suite to get that really filmy look.
Thanks, keep up the excellent work!

i've only been on vimeo for about a month, but this is like the feeling of walking through a calm wood with nothing but the sounds of a nearby stream and small birds for company. Such clarity to contrast my mindset of late. A treasure chest of simple yet powerful and compelling messages. Makes me rethink where i set that bar not too long ago. I am grateful to my newly adopted community.

hi paul, any suggestions on the capture method, looks great with the stock lense. thanks
  • Paul Joy 1 month ago
I offload the whole BPAV folder to hard drive using the USB connection on the camera. Then working in final cut import the footage from that drive in the native XDCAM-EX codec using whatever format the footage was shot in.

    Hope this helps

great work. Now you should talk to Sony about some sort of compensation because thats pretty much convinced me that the EX1 is the way to go.
