Rich, composable systems are the way to go--in programming languages, libraries, and interface metaphors. This short screencast looks at the latter, comparing TextMate and Emacs.

Thanks for the fun intellectual romp. My take away is the importance of systems that are "turtles all the way down". That is, composable systems that you can inspect all the way down to the core. Emacs has this, as you demonstrate. I can imagine how TextMate _could_ build this functionality, but as you show, its not there yet.

Thanks for twisting my brain around in an interesting way!

A small correction. TextMate does have fuzzy command completion out of the box. Cmd-Ctrl-T brings up a list of all available snippet commands and lets you filter them. Cmd-Shift-T brings up an outline of your current file and lets you do a fuzzy search on the structure of your current file. This latter feature is a great example of the power of TM's scopes (which I would love to see in Emacs).

Is there any chance that we'll ever see the follow-up to this excellent screencast?

Ditto Patrick's comment... This is beautiful. Especially the ending. "Composable abstractions" Great phrasing for a true meme.
