Liberty Village is an example of how Toronto has transitioned an area of primarily industrial and manufacturing land into a bustling residential area. There are positive and negative arguments on how the area was developed, but The WareInToronto Group happily endorses this pocket as a great option that offers incredible Waterfront, Queen West and Financial District accessibility.
Liberty Village was given its name because "Liberty Street" was the first street both male and female convicts would walk once freed from the Toronto Central Prison and the Andrew Mercer Reformatory for Women. Over the years, this neighbourhood has seen the rise and fall of manufacturers of farming/industrial equipment, toys (Irwin Toy company, now the Toy Factory Lofts) and bombs/weaponry during both world wars.
Recently, major developers such as CanAlfa, BLVD Developments and Plaza Corp have built large condo buildings that have brought a plethora of young, affluent residents.
