The night sky in the Sahara must be absolutely amazing.

  • Helge Hafstad plus 1 year ago
Fantastic, makes the remoteness of location and the magic off the desert shine brightly! At 2:40 the sky looks like a back eddy in a great river of stars.

amazing! was this taken with a canon 5d??
  • zoomion plus 1 year ago
    Thank you, it was a 5D Mk2.
  • Waynester 1 year ago
This is the first time I've seen a Canon 5d so clear and crisp like this! if you dont mind me asking, how did you edit and make it look like this? how did you compress the video?
  • zoomion plus 1 year ago
Thank you again :). Well there was no color correction in the post for the video parts. I worked with some GND filters. The timelapse sequences are shoot in RAW and batch processed in post.

  • zoomion plus 1 year ago
Thank you Trond! Yeah it was hard but too a lot of fun for me :). I've added some infos to the description...
Just ask me if you want to know more.

Absolutely beautiful work, job well done!!! I'm still lost for words, mind blowing colors. Also, good on you making your own dolly and rotary table (would love to see picts on that, or a how-to-build your own video).

Did you also use any color grads along with the ND grads, or was that done in post? How did you setup your camera for the sunset to dark timelapse (exposure time, etc.)? Did you have noise reduction turned on? I've watched the 1080P version 6 times on my HDTV. Fantastic.
  • zoomion plus 1 year ago
For the realtime video there was nothing done in post. It's just how it's came out of the camera. I worked with manual WB and some personal picture styles (option in the cam). Could you give me the time of the part you mean? So I could tell you the settings... Noise reduction was on at high ISO and thank you again that's cool :)

    Cheers

This makes me so eager to get out and spend a night under the stars with my new camera. Maybe I'll head to the coast in search of some sand dunes! But I guess I need to get some GND filters beforehand.

    Beautiful work!
  • zoomion plus 1 year ago
Thank you! That's a good idea Brad, but I would't use GND in the night ;) Maybe just for the sunset. So good luck with your search ;) Cheers

That its amazing! What setting did you use on the 5D at the night time lapse around 2:34 and 3:49?
  • zoomion plus 1 year ago
    Hi Jack, thank you too.
    At 2:34 I've used EF 15mm F/2.8 30sec with ISO 3200
    At 3:49 I've used EF 17-40mm at 22mm F/4 30sec with ISO 3200. Hope could help you...

Sehr genial - Respekt!!

great work! i'd like to know more about your selfmade dolly and rotation table. also, for your long-exposure timelapses, how many 12v batteries did you go through in one night? seems like i can't get more than 30 minutes worth of 30s exposures with a single camera battery...

    keep up the good work!
  • zoomion plus 1 year ago
    hey Jonathan

You can find some pictures of the motion control system here:
    zoomion.ch/var/index.php?dir=videos%2FTimelapsr_Demo%2F

The 12V batteries are only used for the motor and not the camera and overall it dosn't need a lot of energy because you only made small steps once in 30s. So for the night scens I used the Canon batterygrip, this way you have two batteries ands thats enough for some hours, but don't forget the big CF-card if you shoot in RAW ;)

    Cheers
  •
  • Hey, unglaubliche Aufnahmen.

  • zoomion plus 1 year ago

    Danke
    Lutz
  • zoomion plus 1 year ago
    Hey Lutz

That shot of the stars (Thumbnail) made my jaw drop. It was such a weird feeling, it kind of made me realize what a small place planet earth is.
    Indescribable.

Stunning....simply stunning. The section of the time lapse starry night gives you the impression that the Universe is moving overhead when actually the Earth is moving to give us a 360 of the Universe. Kind of keeps things in perspective. Thank you!

Zoomion, this has to be one of the best, if not the best time lapse I've ever seen. Were these LEE filters you were using? Great light range. Your motion control system looks much more ideal in size compared to others I've seen. Is there a website you could recommend to offer some insight on how to build one? I'm very interested. Thanks again for this inspiration
