This was the project that launched iO (previously named Aurora). It consisted of three spot for their different technologies - Home Theater, PC, and Mobile.

iO was chosen to bring audio to life in Dolby’s foray into the consumer market. The goal was to depict the experience of using Dolby-endowed technology and the “Tao of Dolby” - a seemingly physical manifestation of activated audio enveloping the user and their environment. From the initial designs to the elaborate audio-driven CG elements, iO was given an unusually fun responsibility of visualizing the immersive audio-visual experience of Dolby.

As experienced motion designers, with little on-set experience, we hired a live action director and a production company to handle the shoot.

I was the main liaison with the Agency, and therefore Dolby. The agency had not yet won the account - and though they were happy with the first pass of boards, I decided to spend a freakish night designing two styleframes inevitably sold the whole campaign for the Agency, winning the account, and our Motion Design services.

Designing, Animating, tracking and compositing these spots are our wheelhouse. Unfortunately, there was much politics and drama with an inexperienced agency. Despite this difficulty, we delivered a piece that Dolby was happy with - on time.

We shot the slow motion with a Phantom at 900fps, and developed a new trick to track such slow footage.

My responsibilities were CD, AD, TD, Lead 3D, and supervised the compositing. I even took over some EP duties as an owner, to make sure the project kept moving despite some challenges with my staff.

As a result, Dolby was happy enough to came back to us directly to do a couple more projects.
