A quick tutorial on creating mesh lights in Blender 2.5 Alpha 2

Note: Unlike my last tutorial, where I spent a long time creating a semi-complex scene with node compositing, this time I'm just giving you the bare essentials in a pretty package :)

Blender 2.5 Alpha 2 r27474
Recorded with Camtasia Studio 6.0.3

maybe i'll create a tutorial like this but with PDF format and Indonesian Language :D
  • Benjamin Bailey 1 year ago
Sounds excellent, Pandu. :) I'm sure there will be plenty of people who would love to learn this in their own language, Bahasa! Terima kasih!

Wow, I learned a few things here:
    - Scale to cursor
    - Constraining movement to two axes using Shift+Axis you don't want
    - I thought you had to have AO enabled for indirect lighting, but apparently I'm wrong. :P

    Thanks for the tutorial!

I'm glad you learned from it! I know the tutorial was pretty simple, but it seems you got something out of it anyway. Bravo!

Lovely presentation! I love the way you start it with a music and end it the same way. Very soothing and relaxing to the mind. Thanks for sharing. ^_^

Thank you, Reynante! I'm glad you liked it. :D By the end of the project I was VERY familiar with the end of that music (it was a pain to get it synced in Camtasia.) Hahaha :)

And btw, I really like your work, too!

    Oh, thanks. Haha! ^_^'

Wow, this is great. I had no idea indirect lighting was already working. Though I didn't care for the music, I'm glad you posted this. ;-)

Thanks! That's awesome. Hey, sorry, can't please everybody. And I know, her voice isn't great - but oh well, it's a song :)

That's pretty awesome :) is it possible already to obtain baked textures affected by that lightning?
  • Benjamin Bailey 1 year ago
Thanks! Hmmm, possibly. I haven't tested it yet.
  • Salvatore La Bua 1 year ago
That would we really sweet cos you could apply the baked textures to simulate the indirect lighting in other environments where that would not be possible, such as for instance when you can only apply textures on your meshes without lights calculation :)
Will try something when I'll hopefully have some more spare time, have a nice day and thanks for the video :D
  • Benjamin Bailey 1 year ago
Yes, you are right, it would be awesome :D Alright, sounds good! If you come up with anything, feel free to share! :D You're very welcome!

Hey hey :) just a quick test, had to download build 27610 tho to let it not crash at bake time bit.ly/b5LKg2 and relative silly render bit.ly/b2U9ml it works pretty good for my taste :)

but Blender 2.5 alpha 2 doesn't work; ican't see the menues contents
i've installed vcredistx86.exe but no way..
  • Benjamin Bailey 1 year ago
    Hello,
    Thanks!
I assume you are using Windows? Have you tried a recent build of Blender on GraphicAll.org? (Make sure it is for your setup of Windows, such as getting Win32 instead of Win64)

I'm glad you made it past the wrong way and conquered indirect lighting! Glad you liked my tutorial. Thanks!
