Back in 1994, before Google (and before Yahoo, Lycos, Excite), Infonautics launched it's Electric Library service online -- offering full-text access to over 2,000 full-text content sources targeted to junior and senior high-school students. The service was available for $9.99/month or $69.95/year.
Whenever we spoke with a parent in person, we'd close a sale. But when we tried to market it broadly, the results were poor. We tried online advertising. We tried e-mail. We tried direct mail. We tried newspaper and magazine ads. We tried selling through the school channel. And we even tried an infomercial.
This is our ill-fated infomercial experiment.
