Hey Stefan. Your rig looks really great and extremely versatile. Lot's of nice features that will help in the stereo workflow. I'm pretty sure a lot of people will find it quite useful. I'm already looking forward to your next videos.

And thanks for giving me some credit :-)

much appreciated, but there are no shaders, and no detailed options in the Cinema 4d file scene that is linked.:(
  • Stefan Voigt 1 year ago
Hmmm... strange. Which version of Cinema 4D are you using?
You'll need R.11.5 + MoGraph for the shaders.

What do you mean by "detailed options"?
Is the user data of the Camera named "SV Stereo Rig" missing?

very cool :-) i`ll give it a try..

    p.s. how do u render this out..usually ?
u`ll need to export left and right cam..something i didnt check yet, its how to render views (cameras) in C4D without creating a scene for each camera.. i`ll probably need to check the output settings better :-)
  • Stefan Voigt 1 year ago
Hi, glad you like it! :)

At the moment you'll have to render out the left camera first and afterwards start a new render, where you select the right camera for output.

I want to include a feature that switches the cameras automatically, but that will take some time.

  • andrearusky 1 year ago
...thanks stefan, i was just checking C4D now..and yep, no options for the camera output.. probably they will add this in a new release, cos seems like 3D stereo is popular now :)
    cheers!
    a.

There is a little white checkbox (tiny icon...looks like a crosshair) beside your camera in the object-manager. This icon says wich camera will be rendered. So you can first check the left cam, render that and then choose the right cam.

great stuff! cant wait to dive in later. (need to get a pair of 3d glasses first)

I also really enjoyed your infographic type tutorials on understanding the basics of stereoscopy.

    Many thanks!
I also have to checkout your tutorials!
    Seem to be very great!

Thanks Stefan, awesome rig! But question, is there a way to switch to a 4 view like the default? Where I can see top, left, front, and camera view? Every time I try, it automatically pops back to the left or right camera perspective views. Are those windows controlled by xpresso? Thanks!
  • Stefan Voigt 1 year ago
Hmmm... I think the left and right camera thing is really annoying when modeling or animating, but great for stereoscopy.
Just save the scene with the 4 view and the rig should always show up with the 4 view. The are no Xpresso controlls.

brilliant work Stefan, I can't thank you enough. Yea I noticed the User Data doesn't appear in the R10 download. But it shows up fine in the v3.3 (for R11) - I only wish I had R11.5 for the anaglyph camera shader... That's pretty much the only way you can test it right? (without going into Photoshop and doing the Blending Options...)
  • Stefan Voigt 1 year ago
If you got another method, tell me! ;)
I really would like to programm an image output, where you get an anaglyph. But I havent figured out how to do this. I think I'll use Coffee Scripts for that. But Coffee Scripts won't work with R10 ^^

Exellent work very in depth stuff! thankyou very much for sharing this with me.
I am a beginner with 4D but I have been looking for some time to find the appropriate plugin to do this. I had the error at first that i did not have the correct plug-in. I am updating my Cinema4D so hoping that might do the trick.
Would I be right in thinking I can then render a stereoscopic movie from C4D11.5? :D
  • Stefan Voigt 1 year ago
    Hey there,

    glad you like it :)
You have to install Mograph2 to get rid of the error.
But this will only affect the "anaglyph preview" feature.
So you also can save the money, because the camera will still work properly. Just delete the Camera Shaders and you won't get the message anymore.

To render a stereoscopic movie you still have to render out the left and right cam seperately. After that you'll have to overlay them in a compositing programm like After Effects.
Check out my tutorials for informations about that:
    svoigt.net/index.php/tutorials/22-stereoscopic-3d/28-how-to-create-anaglyph
    svoigt.net/index.php/tutorials/22-stereoscopic-3d/29-optimized-anaglyph

and heres a nice plug-in for After Effects by David Shelton for the best optimized anaglyph you can get ;)

  • Stefan Voigt 1 year ago
    Hallo Wilfried,

Aber wenn man die Version für R11.5 benutzt, ist das alles kein Problem! Dann brauche ich also doch noch kein R12 release zu machen ^^
