Egypt: tax-collectors strike ع الرصيف
Egypt's real estate tax collectors started their strike and open sit-in at the heart of down town Cairo, facing the cabinet and Ministry of Finance on Dec 3, 2007.
By the 11th day, the government responded to all demands of the 55,000 strikers after rounds of threats and tough negotiations on both sides.
Eventually, workers got equal pay to that of General Tax Authority employees, all strike days were considered workdays, no worker was victimized, and on top of that they got paid 2 months bonus.
This is one in a thread of labor strikes sweeping Egypt in 2006 - 2007. It was inspired by Mahalla textile workers famous strike in Sept 07. However, the tax-collectors strike was remarkable because it was the first time government employees revolt.
