13. VIV Mag Featurette: A Digital Magazine Motion Cove…
1 year ago
With the iPad release a mere few weeks away, it’s only appropriate that we release our own bit of goodness.

Together with co-directors Cory Strassburger and Ming Hsiung, we produced a motion magazine cover and feature spread for Viv Mag - an all digital magazine, which would allow us to create content that will be able to live on the iPad and other tablet devices where digital magazines can live.

Check out this featurette, which goes behind the scenes and shows how we put it all together.

Special thanks to Campion for taking a risk with me. Without the bravery of a good client, we wouldn’t be able to bring you work of this caliber.

Ditto what Jonathan Gass, said. This sold me too. I'm just wondering... doesn't this small screen bode well for DSLR shooters, and Vimeo in particular?

I'd give my left ventricle to work on something like that. It looks bloody fantastic.

This is taking the act of reading and turning it into a game for the wrong reasons. Really, this is only meant for the passive-readers who stopped reading in the first place, after they got past picture-books or have forsaken reading altogether for junk-media. Not to mention, did you look at the “lifestyle” tag associated with VIV magazine, they will be nothing more than one big AD meant to keep future generations addicted to ADD medication and overpriced accessories.

If this says anything about the future, I am very worried indeed.

Did you even see the educational possibilities here? I mean, obviously they're going to showcase it in the ways that could make the most money... But seriously, there is the potential for all types of applications. It's barely conceivable! The world is what we make it!

    COME ON!

This is a new and exciting platform and all I see from the get-go is corporate pollution.

I really hope there are independent media outlets out there whose main focus will not be to continue to distract the masses.

Implicit in this project is the power structure of the dying Madison avenue ethos - advertisers controlling the message. With all this new technology the best they can come up with is a magazine cover/story that moves? An utter poverty of the imagination. These guys are competent technicians - not anything remotely resembling the Avant-Garde (which the lead 'creative' actually has the gall to suggest). What a foolish waste of resources.

    I agree with you.
Reminds me to those old books for kids in the 50s, now refurbished for sell new tech to old people.
yap 'An utter poverty of imagination.'

Great work! And a great promotional tool for the iPad. Although I feel like this will be like the Flash website of the 90's. Looks cool, sort of a functional and a pain in the ass to build and maintain.

Awesome behind-the-scenes video. The Web site mentioned at the end doesn't work, however.
  •
  • Take a cup of video, a handful of web flash, throw in a pinch of gaming design and you have the new magazine paradign for the Ipad.

    Slick and sublime technology.
