15. VIV Mag Motion Cover - iPad Demo
Together with co-director Cory Strassburger and Ming Hsiung, we produced a motion magazine cover and feature spread for Viv Mag - an all digital magazine, which would allow us to create content that will be able to live on the iPad and other tablet devices where digital magazines can live.

This is the first video magazine concept that makes absolute sense, is tasty and informative. I agree with Duncan: this is the future. And obviously the iPad concept is what will make it work so well, for so many.

I agree Dan^ I've seen a few magazine concepts online and this seems the most interactive. I know the same kind of thing was being done for ad signs, so I wasn't too surprised when I saw they were going to do it for this.. I kind of want an ipad now.

I just scrolled through the other videos by Alexx Henry and realized the "Living Movie Poster" is what I was referring to. They're on top of it FTW!

Great now we have to shoot landscape portrait and 3d. I dont think I can hold 6 cameras at once. Not to say I didnt love the concept.

I love Ed and everything he stands for. Oh, and this video magazine thing is sic! Finally, we don't have to use photos for our ads in magazines. Bring it on!

I wonder what sort of GUI Tooling software that is gonna bust out to author this/these motion/touchscreen/sliders/videoplayer components.. adobe? apple? or homebrew... by design shops.

    someone .. anyone?

looks like a mix of indesign/aftreffx/flex would work.

This is an advert masquerading as a magazine cover. It's lovely, but doesn't solve any fundamental problems of publishing. The iPad ain't no silver bullet, and as long as Apple keeps hold of user data, it's going to lack appeal to publishers.

If it's a digital magazine, why not use motion in it? =)

Nice idea. And convert video to iPad can be done with ipad converter from videoipadconverter.com

Nice cover, but what about content?

I will check this on my iMac instead of my iPhone. I can't see it on the 3gs version due to some QuickTime drama?Seems pretty bad that the compatibility between the platforms is still so far off. You think that a product designed for an ipad would work on an iPhone?

    Just my 0.02c

I just bought an iPad and this mag is not anywhere to be found. Not in the Bookstore, iTunes or the App Store. little confused it cannot be downloaded considering the articles about it. could someone help me get it onto my iPad?

The mag can be bought via the Zinio app in the app store. The app has over 100 different titles. This issue is by far the most interactive one I've seen. I've heard Wired is pretty good and Time wasn't bad either. I can't wait to see the iPad version of S.I. but this issue of VIV is what all those digital mags should aspire to!

What interests me is the post process. How do you get your footage from a video to play in the digimag format? It's not flash so how are they coding this?

Very original and well done video. However, the use of stock Garage Band music is not very professional. Nothing wrong with the music itself, it's just used in so many amateur videos it threw me off a little.
