For what purpose are we fed? Is it simply to grow personally and enlarge ourselves; or is it to gain strength and energy to be about the work and calling of our lives? In a culture of entitlement and consumerism the implicit answer that surrounds us is the first: that what we receive to enrich our lives has no other expectation than that we receive it. But in this family of faith to which grace has brought us—in this kingdom community where we live by values and virtues different from the world around us—what we receive always has an outward (other-ward) momentum to it. Having been fed this day at the table of grace we are called—commanded—to go and live gracious lives in the world; lives of healing and hope and joy.
