Love from Southend... HD
Shot using the Sony EX1 and Letus Ultimate on a rare sunny day in Southend-On-Sea in Essex.
A short film that captures the feel of a day at a typical British seaside town.
Music is by Charles Trenet "La Mer"

nicceeeeee.
British and proud haaha!
Did you do this last Bank Holiday week? Looks like that was our summer...
Great stuff once again and its always a pleasure watching your work - thumbs up :)
What lens your r using?
I'm pretty sure those people would really hate that music - or am I wrong? :)
While there were a number of shallow DOF shots, I did not see all that many that could not have been obtained with the very fine Fujinon lens on the EX1 in telephoto. Just curious what the Letus gives you in setting up your shots. Quite obviously they work!
Charles Trenet wrote the piece on a train journey in the South of France and it was later rewritten in English and sung by Bobby Darrin "Beyond the Sea"
Not sure about California. I hope so soon. Who knows!
Global warming is sure taking hold.
i also want to know, how much the "bullet"-treatment pushes the colors, and how it would look straight out of cam.
here and there i think the reds are very intense, but thats just a like or dislike.
thanks for putting out that much of content in that superb quality!
Sony cams are the best.I like the colors, and the movement. You did A wonderful job on this.
I like it A lot.
Love the depth of field and colors.

Oh, and up to your usual exceptionally high standards; yet another film as an example of what's possible to achieve by the ordinary man. (Not that you are :)
I asked permission of some people, with the 400mm I could get people from very far away being very natural!

Avi: so, who the f....

Just curious, did you try an elastic band for the timelapse pan?
And was that a very slow Wolly ending?
Nice work Philip.
A favourite of your shorts.
=)
Yes to Wally Dolly at the end. If you go to my blog you can read about my failed attempt to try a timelapse dolly shot, hence in the end just went for a reallly smooth and slow track back.
Looks great by the way. Plenty of interesting footage and lots of vibrant colours. I'd be curious to see a before and after though? To see how far you tweak that Magic Bullet.
I love the EX1 ... I'll have one in a few months. Did you see they've released 32Gb memory sticks with plans for 64Gb cards later in the year?
I wish Sony developed the EX1 around a 100Gb internal hard drive for general filming, and memory sticks for special effects - though it is possible to plug the Ex1 into an outboard hard drive, but its costly.
I like "La Mer". First heard it when I saw "LA Story". You had to live there to get that movie. I did, and I did.
:)
seriousy, that would be a challenge too far!
Your work Phil has been a great contributing factor for me in picking the EX-1 as the camera I need to get. Now to get the clients willing to pay for HD. Always enjoy seeing your beautiful work.
Cheers
Andy
Asides from that... inspiring work you are doing my friend! Fantastic quality! Cheers!
Not too thrilled abt the choice of music though.
This reminds me a little of the beach scenes in Bert Haanstra's masterpiece documentary 'Alleman' (1963)
