This is a story adapted from Dagon by HP Lovecraft.

Content credits are listed at the end of the film, with special mention to the pose creator, Del May.

A very big thanks to Carlos, the narrator, for being a great voice artist, and also the easiest person in the world to get along with!

I attacked this story from the point of view that none of this was really happening, it was an illusion and delerium. The things he sees are not real, or are they? It's an ambiguous tale.

Trace! Wow. When I watch your films, I forget that I'm watching something created in Second Life. There are several scenes that stood out to me, in particular the build up to his "visions". I'll have to watch again, the quality looks perfect to me, but I was paying attention to the story and visuals. Awesome!!!

Wow! Love it! Your attention to detail and your sets and scenes amaze me every time I watch one of your films! The play of light and shadow, the dreamy sequences, the sounds, the atmosphere... wonderful! I'll definitely watch this again and again to get everything I missed!

Agreeing with Sisch, will need more than a few viewing to take this in. Beautifully atmospheric, wonderful editing in dream sequence, exquisite choice of colour palette and textures. I find myself watching your work as if it is a series of paintings, always so inspiring.-Kate

Superb adaptation of one of Lovecraft's best stories. The style of "moving still image" is spot on for this story. Wonderful work, Lainy, esp with color contrast and sound design. I hope this film gets a wide audience. I'll be writing it up at mplex.

PS sound lowers at around 4 minutes in. Narrator volume drops several db. Everything before that sounds just right. FYI

Thanks Ricky, that matches the problems with the sound I've been having during rendering. thanks for info, will fix.

Trace - an amazing achievement. Very spellbinding. I wish you were around when I did the Lovecraft pieces on HBO. Your style is certainly leagues ahead of ours. -Mike

Amazing, I was captivated the whole time, maybe just a few little SL distractions, but that was nothing compared to how high you have raised the bar now on visualising classic stories. Very much appreciated.

Lovecraft deserves nothing less than what you've given his work here. Utterly entrancing. The color, the editing, the freaking amazing soundscape. I Tweeted this earlier but only got to watch it in full just now. Highly inspirational.

Russel's right; with this and The Dumb Man, you've raised the bar on classic story adaptation.

Your shot selection and editing right after the man hears the scream... so very very effective (and affective).

I will learn a lot from this movie. Thank you.

Lainy, one must bow to the master of machinima! Your video illustrates the incredible possibilities for storytelling. The comic book quality of this video with its striking use of lighting, weather effects, backdrops...I can't say enough!

And to take on a Lovecraft narrative in a noir style! The attention to detail is so amazing. I give this video two thumbs up. One of the top ten SL machinima of all time!!

We've come to expect images that are unsettling from you - and applying your creative skills to the retelling of an HP Lovecraft story is a perfect idea - and did you deliver! Visually captivating, you really prove the SL is legitimate movie making platform.
Another great piece from you which I expect we'll see many times in the festivals.

Gripping from beginning to end. Imaginative retelling of this terrifying tale and the visuals were just wonderful. My hat off to your narrator, Carlos too. He really built up the suspense in this. Also, have to agree with Chat Noir. What's left to the imagination helps to make this movie. Darkly brilliant. Loved it!

Damn, that was awesome. Aside from your astounding graphics, this is the weirdest, most engaging machinima. I have watched it three times now. The narration was impeccable, but the soundscape drew me right from the start. You have this awesome style of editing and the colours were beautiful.
    Another classic machinima from Lainy.

Applaud, I think is the spark I needed to get back into this. Thank you.

In my opinion, this doesn't need any improvement, even though the end scene is kinda swift, there is no need for it to be changed, I myself love H.P. Lovecrafts work and the short story Dagon was the first H.P. Lovecraft story I ever read, so my point is that in the original story the ending was just as swift, and that, I think, is the cherry on top of this story, he hears the same voice as in his nightmarish voyage on the sea floor, and he gets into a panic....''that sound...!THE WINDOW!!! THE WINDOW!!!'' just perfect...thank you for giving us a video that truly gives honor to the master of horror.

Being a fan of Lovecraft's works, I have always lamented the lack of decent adaptations of his stories to film. I actually resorted to creating a Lovecraft adaptation of my own just so I could watch one of his tales come to life. I am happy to say my lamentations are over now that I've seen your vision of "Dagon". Now all I have to do is wait until your next foray into madness, so that I may join you for a spell. But please, don't make me wait too, too long. Madness has limited patience.

I was completely pulled into this world. I agree with others that it feels unlike SL, a sort of escalated version, in part I think because you are quite sparing in your animations and you don't go lipsync. Narrator very strong, image layering, image recurrence, and audio that closes he door behind us and we are all the way inside this madness. Well enuf blather - great work
