In this animation, the viewer watches the birth and maturation of a boy as he moves from childhood fantasies to the grim reality of war. Paper cutouts of old photographs are utilized to create surreal imagery with a vintage feel. Although the photographs are dated, the themes and symbols within Once Upon a Time are universal and demonstrate the frailty of childhood dreams.
This animation was created by Marion Tucker as an assignment at the Perpich Center for Arts Education.
