Now, I know it's passe to burn a flag, but what about converting it into a population of 460 colour traders and releasing them into an artificial colour-based economy?

Is that so wrong?

In this Colour Economy render, a conveniently geometric image creates bands of rich and poor particles, with a cluster of poverty at the top left.

ABOUT THE COLOUR ECONOMY:

What if pixels were free? What if they could trade their computer-given red, green, and blue values in pursuit of a profit?

The Colour Economy imagines an artificial economy of pixels, in which individual 'traders' exchange colour.

The Colour Economy is a project by Jer Thorp (blprnt.com) and was built with Processing v. 0135.

Thanks for taking the time - I agree that it becomes more interesting when you pay a bit more attention to detail. There is a system of relatively simple interactions that controls how the traders behave. I will be documenting this more on my site (blprnt.com) over the next little while.

I like the idea of this project, it's like some kind of strange metaphore :)

I am working on some renders with more pixel traders - this one has about 500, and the ones I'm trying right now have about 10,000. With more traders, you see the white areas drain from the coloured areas much more clearly. You can see it here, as well, but as the traders start moving it becomes harder to keep track.

I've found that flags are great working material for this project, since they have nice solid blocks of colour.
