1. Live At The V. Sessions - Fennesz
In 2009 I set up an internet-based project called 'The V. Sessions' and organized live sessions which have been filmed, broadcast and recorded live in a studio without any audience.

Fennesz's set was totally improvised.
The session took place in Paris on May 28, 2009.

Sound engineers: François Eckert, Thomas Dappelo.

Fennesz cruises along through many different worlds, and he can't see how that would be a problem. After starting out, guitar in hand, as a member of an experimental rock band inspired by Sonic Youth, the 90's see him turning to electronic music and acoustic research. He works alone but keeps his eager mind entertained through fruitful collaborations (Le Groupe de Recherches Musicales, Keith Rowe, Ryuichi Sakamoto...). The 2000's offer him the chance to show what he's made of: his studio album Endless Summer quickly attains cult status, the Live in Japan recording is voted one the year's best albums by The Wire, and the latest offering, Black Sea (2008), looks like it's on track to perform similarly.

Fickle, dreamy or violent, his solo productions refuse neither pop melody nor the noise that gives it color, the noise behind which all the poetry and emotion of Fennesz' music lies in hiding. Sometimes he and his guitar have a conversation and, with the help of his very own computer, he creates, distorts or refines the sound, confers the structure more density, oh so far from the cliché of cold, clinical “laptop music”. In the end, it's all about the journey, ever-changing as the sky and the sea, mesmerizing as cinema stills. You may not pick the destination, but trust him for making it up to you as soon as you've set out.
