Went to a bunch of streetfairs this weekend. Thought I'd play with the crowds and some old and new paintings of crowds. Music is Mingus.

This is GOOD. A mass compilation of mixing mediums adding to the equation...uh, yeah. Great sheet. Tumbled it.

  • Wow this is probably my favourite by you so far.

    Those balloons....

Haha Alex I really enjoy your videos, they are so entertaining.

I'm tempted to do the narration over as I was more or less just muttering off the top of my head... but then again, I'm tempted to move on.

I think the free-thought style is the best part.
  • Alex Itin 2 months ago
thanks blake... There is always the tension of spontaneity versus actually saying something..... and of course

Really dug this one Alex. The mix of media and your personal narrative gives this piece light. This is a fantastic look into the Itin.

I used to walk around Manhattan, mostly on sunny days, with my Nikon, loaded with fujichrome, looking for black and white pictures to take... I would usually end up in Central Park, by the fountain, drawing nudes in pencil. I never found love in NYC... only the promise. But that might have been more early summer... I forget.
  • Alex Itin 2 months ago
well you can always love the city itself... love of people is harder to come by it is true.

Art... self expression, ,... the courage to share your soul honestly, without fear,...maybe that's Love ...? Love the Art.

i'm on a conference call while watching this, so i don't have the sound up. i'm getting so much enjoyment out of this clip even without sound. i especially liked the crying little girl on the slide.
  • Alex Itin 2 months ago
Will you watch it again with sound, I wonder? The music at least is good.
  •
  • Loonachic 2 months ago
oh i totally will. i'm still stuck on this conference call. it's never going to eeeeeeeeeeeeeend :-/

nice homage to the little red balloon...
plus the wont go down the slide girl,
    who then does...

something in me wants to see this through a super 8 filter...
like if it was shot in the year the music was recorded...
or in the year you were born?

yes when she goes eventually down
we see how much we all have to learn.

we should all wear our hearts on our sleeves
    like your words do.

  • Alex Itin 2 months ago
heart on sleeve is the title of one of the drawings.
I guess you noticed.... course it's also a bar code tattoo, but that's a different story.

the mix of your voice with the music is just perfect.

    Excellent.

I imagined that you had thought out the narrative with care. I didn't think it was a free flow of expression and am all the more impressed. The poetry and rhythm of the words fit so well with that of the music, which fits so well with the rhythm of the images.

I was just trying to sing along with the mingus... there are a number of spots where I now imagine better lyrics/words...

one of these days I'll try to do something that's carefully thought out.... but it might be clunky.

Thanks so much for this. I lived in NYC long time ago and this is a sweet reminder of all those street fairs that just popped up everywhere.
  • Alex Itin 1 month ago
you are welcome. It's particularly nice in the spring, when you've been feeling cooped up. By the middle of summer the fairs start to feel like traffic barriers and you just try to get past them to wherever you are going.

Hey! --Alex!! Your vid is truly an amazing work of art!!!
I like the way you blow it off by nonchalantly stating that you "went to a bunch of streetfairs ... and played with the crowds". Quite frankly, it would take me months of shooting and then weeks of editing to begin to approach the quality of your work. Although I live in NC now, I lived in the city and worked on John Street for some time. I, too, enjoyed the streetfairs and took great delight in just strolling and studying the other folks out for a relaxing day. Many, many kudos!
