AWESOMEEE!!! Dear Gabe, once again you did it!, GREAT WORK. Your technique is wonderful, perfect, but your visual skills are still better. A big hug from Spain, all my respect for you: a complete Artist. Thanks for sharing.

Awesome vid! The opening titles still give me chills every time I watch it. Now the only problem is getting the song out of my head!

This is so badass, man! I can't imagine all the work. Must've been some pretty serious storyboarding right? Or not? Great video. Great song. Form fits the content really well.
  • Gabe Askew plus 1 year ago
I did spend quite a bit of time on story boards. I think about 50 percent of the boards I drew didn't make it.
  • Matt Wells plus 1 year ago
Wow. I can tell. I just watched it again. So ambitious and such great storytelling from beginning to end. That song really drives it. The only thing I cant understand is why hasnt Grizzly Bear commissioned you to do their next video!?

Great job Gabe! Bring on the surrealism full force! I love the wooden shark. Now I really know I have to try my hands at CG some day!

Great video. Love the symbolism without it being forced. Perfect blend -- I'm more impressed by the directing than the CG/execution, although it was great too.
    Many props given.

Once again you've created an amazing visual experience. More than a 3D Animator, I consider you a true artist. Nice work, man.
  • Gabe Askew plus 1 year ago
Thanks Dave! Nothing low about being a 3d Animator though. I place it somewhere between a mime and a brain surgeon.

Abso-effing amazing -- transported me to a place where it's hard to breathe, but left open a window or two. This is beyond animation/ storytelling/ imagery. I don't know what it is. Thank you for the maniacal work that went into this. You did it again.

    Great video, feeling inspired.

Even tho the video is completely CG, the way you have edited, composited and structured the scenes and camera work make me forget its CG, rather I am focusing on the story and whats going on in the video.

    nice 1

The last one had knights paired in a rhythmic pulse, like the ever turning great Abracadabra slight of hand, with a touch of Christopher Nolan twisting. But this, this is like some Tim Burton classic of an era I'm waiting to realise.

I see this, but cant explain why: Mark Wahlberg in The Departed, speaking to Leonardo DiCaprio, "And I think if I were Sigmund f-ing Freud himself I wouldn't get an answer."

There is no Answer. So what is the Question?
  • Gabe Askew plus 1 year ago
I suppose it is a bit opaque, but I do try to include an answer in my work. The answer is to keep at it no matter what. It can't hurt to keep working hard to fix your problems. If you go down, at least you went down swinging. In this case the character turned his problems around.

    Thanks for the perspective.

    amazing!
this and your animation for two weeks go so perfectly to the music. are you inspired by the songs first?
  • Gabe Askew plus 1 year ago
Yes, I try to develop an idea from the song first. Rather than taking an idea and fitting it to the song.

cool symbols and transformations to tell the characters journey. the sharks were great and the couch that was a the creature's lips, that was a great design.

Really man I don't know nothing about you but this stuff is absolutely amazing. You must have a crazy imagination and great organisation. Those glass balls with light inside are just magic! and the water with that stop-motion look it's uncanny it's great. I cant stop looking at this with those drawn clouds and textured boat. you've created something really amazing. Thank you.

just cant believe a person has done all of this by himself. how long did it take? where did you study? haha sorry I am truly speechless.
  • Gabe Askew plus 6 days ago
Thanks Ginevra, it took about six months from start to finish but I was working on other stuff at the same time. I'm mostly self taught.
