When the school was asked to manage a distance learning program funded by the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education in the early 1990's, he became that program's director. In 2000, that program evolved into the Louisiana Virtual School (LVS), which is operated by the Department of Education. Dr. Loftin is responsible for the faculty and curriculum taught through LVS. While it is not directly related to the instruction students receive at LSMSA, the Louisiana Virtual School is a virtual resource for schools to access online classes throughout the state.
