I have been working on a documentary style piece for the last year. The focus is on a certain shanty-town (favela) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil called Rocinha. Rocinha means "little farm" in Portuguese and that's just how this now bustling community started. Now when you see Rocinha, one of hundreds of favelas in Rio de Janeiro, you see a community that literally grew like a forrest up the mountains that impossibly jut up from the ground along the Rio de Janeiro coastline.

The piece is a true look at the community and the people who are working to improve it. There are international students, professors, hang-gliding instructors, aspiring Judo champions and the people who live and work in the Rocinha streets everyday.

In music (ex. Baile Funk), In film (ex. City of God), and in documentaries (ex. Bus 174) you see favela life and its many causes and effects. Some wonderful and some horrible. This piece, Rocinha, aims to just find the truth, but most importantly to try and inspire others to do what they can to help organize the communities of the world for a greater good.
