Presented by Jeff Siarto at Refresh Chicago on March 17, 2010

As web developers, we work with relational databases like MySQL everyday. Yet sometimes our data doesn't fit into this model — foreign keys and mapping tables aren't the always the answer. Apache CouchDB is a different kind of database. It's document-oriented and built for the web.

Jeff Siarto will talk about the concepts behind CouchDB, including REST, JSON, and the available Ruby and Javascript client libraries. He'll also introduce you to the CouchDB web interface, and explain the scenarios in which you should choose document-oriented over relational.
