Danny Zacharias 1 year agoYou should consider assuming knowledge of all proper names and place names in your equation. The majority of proper names and place names are so very close to the english that most students get them immediately. This could, perhaps, increase the numbers of verses that a student is able to read dramatically. Just a thought. -

1 year ago Yes, I agree this would be a very good idea. It's a particular example of the general "cognate" and "ease of guessing" that I need to include when weighting items. -

1 year ago I should also note that I need to augment my corpus to actually indicate proper names. Yet again much of the graded reader comes down to the richness of the data. -
jeremy thompson 1 year agoJames, fantastic presentation. I'm a doctoral student studying linguistics and Biblical Hebrew through the University of Stellenbosch. I think that you and I have probably been thinking a lot of the same thoughts concurrently for the last number of years just dealing with different languages.
