Mexican artist Laura Anderson Barbata and the Brooklyn Jumbies, a stilt dancing group whose traditions stem from West Africa and the West Indies, staged an artistic "intervention" on Broome St. in SoHo, NYC in the fall of 2008. Najja Codrington, co-founder of the Brooklyn Jumbies, plays the role of El Señor de Aztlán. Barbata and the Jumbies started a multi-dimensional collaboration in 2006 that combines performance, dance, costume, design, education, and community involvement to create a unique living and moving art.
