FREE ARTS NW: EMPOWERING YOUTH, TRANSFORMING COMMUNITIES - a project of the charitable Partnership fund, partially funded by office of youth violence prevention, City of Portland
This film was created by the students of Film Camp, a free Portland-area spring break filmmaking course put on by Free Arts Northwest and Laki Karavias. The young adults were given crash courses in the major roles of filmmaking, and spent three days writing an original screenplay (based on criteria assigned to each group: genre, location, and a specific prop), and planning and shooting the film, further learning the filmmaking process by doing. Each team had an experienced editor assigned to them so the film could be completed in a short amount of time, and so that each day the editor could help the kids improve their filmmaking skills with encouragement and critique. The films were all screened at the end of the week for friends and family to view. Overall, the Film Camp was a great success, and a pleasure to participate in.
