2007 Chicago Marathon Flashback (Part 2)
Footage shot during last year's heatfest. The race was halted halfway through due to 90 degree temperatures. Parts of my video were aired on CNN's iReport, Fox News and NBC and featured on RunnersWorld.com's website.

2 years ago DNF was probably the best thing you could do for your body that day. -
VendelasCity 2 years agoI was running injured (ongoing back problems, not conditioned for the marathon). Since I was a charity runner for the American Cancer Society (in memory of my dad, who succumbed to Leukemia when he was 45), I felt obligated to at least run part of the race. My coach told me to pull out at the Sears Tower (mile 13) if I wasn't feeling great b/c it was the shortest walk back to the race grounds. Ironically, the race was called off 15 minutes after I stopped! -
SomeUselessGeek 2 years agoYou trimmed out a lot of the bad stuff. That's okay; those of use who followed the story know all about it. I too am glad you chose to DNF rather than push too hard while not at 100%. -

2 years ago I cant believe they ran out of water! You did the right thing Wendy. So are you running this year? -
VendelasCity 2 years agoI've paid my $110 registration fee, intent on revenge! The race is in October. My back problems continue to dog me so I'm working on a modified training plan which will enable me to cross the finish line. Wish me luck for a relatively pain-free summer of marathon training!! -

VendelasCity 2 years agoThanks, Scruff. You can bet I'll carry my camera with me again to document my comeback! :)
