gorgeous. I love that you chose not to add music.
  • Paxson Woelber 1 year ago
Definitely. We're so used to expecting music now that the raw sound here really stood out. For me, I thought it made the whole piece feel somehow both more 'real' and surreal.

Hi, I used the new Sony XM 5 in AVCHD and some shoots are made by Panasonic GH 1.

Incredible, some of the best shots of volcanic activity I've seen (and I watch). I too, loved the natural sound. Thank you. An amazing piece.

Interesting to see part of what is stopping North Europe at the moment. Agree that the natural sound adds to the shots.

it's beautiful, in my city Ustka sky was clean as never thanks to this volcano which stops all of flights in Poland and rest of North Europe, I'am sorry for those who cannot fly but nature is happy :)

This is really some amazing footage.

As I understand it, this is the same eruption that is causing massive air transportation disruptions in northern Europe currently?
  • Nope it is a another volcano in Iceland, called Eyjafjallajökull... ;)

Here can you see live stream from Eyjafjallajökull. eldgos.mila.is/eyjafjallajokull-fra-thorolfsfelli
  • Sune Rasmussen 1 year ago
Oh, I see. It just confused me because of the reference to Eyjafjallajökull in the title ;)

    Thanks for the reply.
  • Marc Szeglat plus 1 year ago
Hi, this was the first eruptive phase of Eyjafjallajökull in March this year. The fissure opend more to the east between the glaciers Eyjafjallajökull and Myrdalsjökull at the Fimmförduháls-pass. But the lava flowed from the magma-chamber from eyjafjallajökull.

This video is excellent. However you spelled the name of the place wrong. The correct spelling is: Fimmvörðuháls, or without Icelandic letters: Fimmvorduhals.
  •
  • At the end of the video it looks as if the lava is being shot out of a hose pipe... amazing

I'm finding it impossible to realise the idea that frozen ice and 400 degree molten rock can exist within a few feet of each other.
  • Marc Szeglat plus 1 year ago
oh, the lava was much hotter! i Red glowing you have above 800 degrees, so i think, the lavafontains are more than 1000 degree.

Exceptional footage. I particularly liked the look and feel of the 'lava fall' into the crevasse between the frozen surfaces. The color, detail and motion were superb. Was that scene shot with the Panasonic or the Sony?

Wow! This video reminds me of a song by Björk, Possibly maybe:
«Mon petit vulcan, your eruptions and disasters I keep calm, admiring your lava, I keep calm».
    Nature is powerful.
