A film installation i created at the start of my current (second) year of Uni.
I was inspired by Jim Lambies 'Screamadelica' which i saw at the Moma last summer. I spent ages sitting in front of the piece waiting for the eyes to blink. So i decided to create a similar piece of my own.
Rather then eyes i chose to focus on the mouth, and thus was also able to incorporate words and speech. I decided to have the people talk about things they are afraid of because it was a topic that everybody could relate to, to show how we all have fears but that everyones are different.
This idea of 'what are you afraid of' also linked back to the installation looking a bit like a spiders web, many people are afraid of spiders, etc.
I then chose to install the projection in a bedroom setting, as bedrooms are a safe place where your fears cant get you.
Looking back on this piece now i am not fully satisfied with it, there are many things, including the installation setting, that i think i would change. But hey ho.
