A short documentary about my experience taking Part B of the PhD qualifying exams in Engineering and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University. For this exam, students are issued a 600 page packet filled with data, journal articles, newspaper clippings, and one important question. You are given 6 days to wade through the packet and extract the relevant parts, perform some proper quantitative analysis, and write up a 20 page policy brief.
In other words, you have 6 days to take an unorganized mess and transform it into a structured, well-written piece of analysis.
This year, the question was about the most effective way to deal with plastic detritus in the oceans.
This is my first movie filmed with my new HD camcorder and edited in a proper editing program (Sony Vegas). In that regard, it has been a bit of a test of new technologies.
For those interested, the four songs are:
Eye of the Tiger by Survivor (from Rocky II, of course)
