English: In this video I wanted to achieve the film look using different techniques, like rise the contrast, using the depth of field, using 24 frames per second and just for fun I added scratches and dust to be seen as an old Super 16mm film, shot with my little Canon HV20 camcorder and edited to show different speeds, to see the possibility of do slow motion with it.

Nice one :). Have You tried to desaturate it a bit? It should give more "old film like" look.

bueno Tommy .... maybe the relation between the scratches (they are a little too much) and the Too steady static shot is a little incompatible ....

I would go a lot lighter on the AE film fx. looks a little heavy handed and breaks the illusion of it actually being film.

  • I think one of the huge caviots of attaining a "film look" is excessive flicker and damage (i.e. dirt and scratches)....It's so funny that when you actually shoot film, typically you stay away from scratches and dirt and, (i know for me) I get really irritated when I have them in my film...but for some reason turning video to be more "film-like" is just the addition of these try- hard to avoid elements. haha But at any rate, your footage looks nice. How much control over the "film damage" do you have in AE? I've never seen it through there before, I've only experienced it through FCP. Looking forward to more of your clips testing out different functions/settings /effects.

That is so true, I use film as well and didnt want any scratch or dust on my film, i don't have too much control because I use a real 8mm leader and diffuse whit the HD footage.

Looks good although the speed of the flicker and the motion of the coins dropping dont match which does kinda break the illusion for me, and it is a bit heavy on the grain/dust which makes it feel like an effect added in post. One of the best attempts at creating the film look though, what mode did you shoot this with? I have an hv20 aswell and would really like to achieve a filmic look.

It looks like a video with some film look plugin.
Video is video and film is film, there are different "brushes" for different projects.
