very cool demonstration. I have been looking around for some demo's of the apps and didn't find any.

Very helpful in designing my magazine without having to get have an actual iPad right now, since i am waiting for the 3g.

    Time – not too bad.
GQ – all over the place.

Would be nice about what technology they base it on (HTML? Something custom-made?) and how they integrate their production workflow in it.

Great critique. Thanks for taking the time and spending the money to do this. Very helpful to us designers as we try to understand this new format.

Thanks for this, Brad. It's very helpful. Gotta say that Time is my early fave-good mix of intuitive navigation and multimedia. I'm curious as to how readers will adapt to PopSci's more complex navigation.

Thanks for the overview, it was great.

I do take issue with people who think design is all there is to a magazine though. Reading, especially on an interactive device, is far more about utility than it is about design. Design is great, but if it makes you work to comprehend the product -- no matter how pretty it is -- it has ruined the product.

  • Thank you for the video. I do like the Popular Mechanics issue, but like Chris said it also look like hard work. Does anyone know what programs were used to create these magazines?
  •
  • I mean Popular Science.

Popular Science might look good, but it is painful to use and practically unreadable. Great to jump around and look at the effects etc but not user friendly at all.

I know that Time uses an application called Woodwing to produce their iPad editions, not sure about the others.

Is this Ipad magazine build with Xcode or with some kind of plugin to InDesign?

The way I see it, the landscape is good for a Sunday morning in the couch. The vertical is great for Monday commute in the bus or metro...
