The twisty effect is called 'Melt Time' by The Foundry, part of the Tinderbox 3 plugins set for After Effects, Nuke and shake...also guys here in Vimeoland using a Processing or Max/MSP custom app...

its a simple effect you could make yourself in AE using 1-pixel wide precomps of the same source video, arranged horizontally/vertically, offset by 1 frame per layer (or larger offset for weirder effects)

Time effects are my favourite...see that OKGO video with the tracer effect also. Most time effects can be arranged using a conceptualisation of how subjects in timespace are perceived within the constraints of rectangular images at 25/30 fps...there are so many possibilities that it's sad to see the same ones being used verbatim rather than expanded upon or improved.

how do you twist only the person and the whole picture?
    is green screen involved?
  • Ed Brown 1 year ago
because it only affects pixels whose colour information has changed (ie moving stuff) so the background is unaffected. The trick is to add stuff in, add fake camera moves (or greenscreen the person) so that you can layer up the motion.
