reddustfilm.net/ Video made March 2010
Music : Sigur Ros Hoppipolla
This a small reel shot on mostly 550D and a little bit of traditional camera for the music video.
It includes footage from 5 videos all mashed together.
Lenses : Sigma 30mm 1.4, Tamron 17 - 50 f2.8 VC,
Canon 50mm f1.8 and the kit lens.
Correction to end slate : I am not a DOP, just an aspiring one, I didn't really understand the meaning of the word before when I made this video.

Thanks for the complement, I really do hope that I make it someday :)
with lenses and all the other stuff that is needed. The kit lens is not a great video / photo solution. I would get the body only and try to push your budget up a little more to afford one decent zoom lens instead of the kit. But if your stuck then it is a good start. Literally this camera is just value for money hands down. It is a fabulous camera I am so happy I have finally taken the DSLR video plunge. Are you wanting this for photo or video mainly?
Id rather have 18 on the low angle than 28mm but thats just me, less shake more angle. If budget is an issue to start just get the kit and upgrade later.
But the bad thing is that those zoom lenses gets darker as they zoom so for video you always have to keep that in mind.
The 50mm 1.8mm is a good start but a tough one to buy alone :(... I would get that and the kit, it is worth the extra $100.
My recommended lenses are Sigma 30mm 1.4 and Tamron 17 - 50 2.8 w/ VC but even these are pricey being the budget equivalents to the canon lenses which can fetch a pretty penny. I run my business around them so it was worth it otherwise I might not have gotten them straight away :)
Kyle here from Television Broadcast, year 1 at Conestoga. Your footage looks excellent man. Its a great inspiration for the kind of stuff I would like to do. I am very pleased to say that this reel brought shivers down my spine from how well it flowed with not only the music, but the other shots.
Buenos Noches mi amigo,
Kyle Lacelle
The quick focusing kind of distracts though.
Great reel man!
Thanks so much for posting your work, nice job! I'm looking at purchasing a setup similar to yours for music video work and wondered if you could post the entirety of the project you shot in the bar with the musicians? When I saw it interspersed in your reel I was really psyched! I really liked your shots and the lighting is close to what I'm expecting to be shooting with. Thanks and keep up the excellent work!
For music videos it is really amazing. I would put a prime lens on there and get your bokeh on!! and make use of that very large sensor size...
I cant really answer the question though, as you would need to be more specific.
