The source of this footage, John McClure, was a member of the San Diego Jr. Chamber of Commerce and sports car fan and driver. His position with the Chamber put him in a position to combine his passions as part of the team that developed the Torrey Pines Race Course. Thankfully, John also carried a camera around with him for races up and down the West Coast.
This footage is from the December, 1955 running of the Palm Springs Road Races. This is a particularly fun race to watch as the camera work is nice and close so we can see some very nice shots of Carrol Shelby in the #63 Jaguar D-Type (DNFed with a handling problem), Dick Morgensen's in his #182 Special, Ernie McAfee in the #207 Ferrari Monza (2nd place, finishing just 4 seconds behind the winner), and Masten Gregory in the #207 Maserati 300s (the eventual winner of this race). Also a nice shot of Bob Willett's tangle with the hay bales after he lost the steering of his Arnolt - Bristol.
