I shot this film with The Nonsense Company. Now that Fruit Fly has distribution, I can focus on getting this film out there, now.
This film was an exercise in invisibility and pure restraint. The performers (Andy Gricevich, Ryan Higgins and composer Rick Burkhardt) all play with narrative form so precisely that any wrong move on my end could ruin the rhythm and/or illusion (or lack thereof).
It was also great physical exercise. When I told The Nonsense Company that I wanted to choreograph some of the roving shots, I didn't take into account the weight of the camera. Whenever I would reload, I'd have to calm my shaking arms and legs down.
Just when I'd feel sorry for myself, I'd look up at The Nonsense Company who have been bowing, banging, slamming, plinking and hollering in perfect unison, take after take, for hours...and I'd tell myself to buck up and just pick the camera up again.
The film is in post-production and will be released in 2013.
