the future is bleak. i didn't think much of the characterization in this until I watched it again on Vimeo. Chad seems to be the only compassionate person in the world, and because of that contrast to the rest of the characters it shines a little more. I mean as far as a minimalist script goes this is saying something, you know? I could definitely do without the campy final shot of the UFO though.
PS: you're required by law to tell me how the score of this movie was made
My favorite moment is where the fellow in the attic asks the protagonist what a bat is. Creepy and telling. The black and white makes your film all the more harrowing, and you've mastered the monochromatic high-key lighting that defines its style.
I was slightly disappointed at the scene where he *spoiler, maybe* beats the old bum to death; he wasn't swinging very hard at all and it sounded maybe a little wimpy, as if he were perhaps killing a very small bum. If you ever do a shot like that again, put a watermelon under there and have him swing away.
I also loved the motif sound of the bat dragging on the ground. Really nice touch.
And one last thing--in response to Ralph's comment above, I actually don't think the final shot of the UFO was campy at all. I think it brings the audience back into the world you've created and ends it there.
Around 15:00, the foley mix quiets down quite a bit. It threw me off, since so much of the film is just sound. The fight scene that follows doesn't have as much scuffing as I was hoping for. I'd really like to hear more about this film sometime!
I guess I kind of want a director's commentary version. I'm sure there's a lot of things I didn't catch and there's no better person to talk about it than the one who made it.
I liked it. I agree with the foley mix. It seemed a bit off at times. Meaning, the bat was too loud or their should have been more scuffling, different choice of sfx etc...
Over all, very good. You had some really nice shots in their.

Then color scenes looked really nice as well.
What camera was this shot on?
The world needs more science fiction like this.
