Joan Margarit discusses his poem 'The eyes in the rear-view mirror' (with Anna Crowe translating), and then she reads her English translation and he reads the original Catalan poem. This film is from IN PERSON: 30 POETS filmed by Pamela Robertson-Pearce. Pamela Robertson-Pearce has been filming poets reading their work for Bloodaxe's archive and DVD-books. We will be posting further films of individual poets. We are also showing a 45-minute film (featuring 20 poets from the IN PERSON archive reading their work) at various independent cinemas, arts festivals and other venues around Britain and Ireland this year. This poem by Joan Margarit is from TUGS IN THE FOG: SELECTED POEMS (Bloodaxe Books, 2006). The poem celebrates the shining qualities of Joan Margarit's beloved daughter Joana, who suffered from Rubinstein-Taybe syndrome, a mental condition also involving severe physical problems which compelled her to use crutches or a wheelchair. We filmed Joan Margarit with his translator Anna Crowe during Aldeburgh Poetry Festival in 2006.
