    At the moment I'm running a Tamron 28-75mm, 2.8

It's pretty versatile but I'm definitely itching to get some more glass, particularly some primes...

great video :) what equipment did u use for the audio?
  • Barry O Donnell 1 year ago
Just a wired lav straight into the camera. Not ideal but I shot this the second day I had the camera and had not yet picked up an audio recorder. The levels were jumping around but it wasn't as bad as I feared.

very cool! very interesting to have the face to put together with the baby. how did you do the transition shakes?
  • Barry O Donnell 1 year ago
Just some quick jump cuts and sound effects I had laying around. Was shooting for something similar to the flashback scenes in Guy Ritchie's "Revolver" and "Sherlock Holmes".

Ive just watched the video again and again, several times in fact and there is more going on than just jump cuts.

Could you explain the so called jump cuts in more depth? it looks amazing.

As far as the transitions are concerned, I cut each one individually. It's not an effect you drop on.

In most cases it went: 2 frames cut, 2 frames cut, then the shot we were transitioning into.

In some cases those very quick 2 frame segments may have been out of focus or during a pan or while the subject was in a different position(looking up or looking down). However they were for the most part intentionally framed in a similar position.

Apart from that it was all just straight cuts. I hope this clears up any confusion.

    Hi Barry,

Your explanation unfortunately went over my head however I really appreciate the fact that you took the time out to respond.

Been editing for a number of years now and have never quite seen anything like this. Keep up the good work,

BTW, where did you learn this "jump cut" technique from and what editing software did you use to cut? FCP??

    Thanks again.
