Another video from the bridge series of Oregon.
I think somewhere around 60 more to go. It will be done.... all of them :)
This bridge located on Hwy-101, near Waldport.

Music or background sound track can really make a video enjoyable. The agony of finding the 'right one' went on for days. So, it finally came down to 'Massive Attack' and 'Portishead'.
The music from 'Massive Attack' won, once I filled the time-line and experimented.

'Messanine' track from the CD: Messanine was used.
Tried other tracks but for some reason nothing really matched the video quite good as this track.

I may end up using 'Massive Attack' on all the future 'Bridge' videos.
(not the same track)

Technical details:
- Taped with a stock Canon HV20
- Cine mode, 24P with 'shade' WB settings
- Exposure locked at -2 at places
- CPF used from Hoya
- Editor: Edius Neo
- Color corrected a bit

Enjoy :)

Nice flow and some very pretty compositions in there.

One constructive criticism for your future bridge films, make sure that on your wide landscape shots you always (horizontally) level your tripod, even the slightest skew in bridge arches and horizon lines can be distracting...

Also would be nice to see some really fast cutting to contrast the overall chilled out pace to the footage. If you plan to stick with Massive Attack then the tunes should complement that too!

    Keep 'em coming!

    Keep them coming.

    thank you for your observation.

If you refer to 2:21 begining pan...
Look at 2:52 to 2:54 and the bridge's vertical structure. It is almost perfectly vertical, given the fact that wide angle always tilt-in due to it's optical design. The water level does look a bit off due to this optical problem with wide angle lens.

Sometimes you have no choice, it was level in the begining, but the heavy tripod was sinking in the wet sand very fast was another problem :)

    Fast cuts.
Hmmm, it started out that way, (2x) but I had to re-cut it because the viewer would have seen very little detail of the textures and so on and it would 'rush' the music tempo.
It took six hours to cut and experiment with this five minute output :)

Subsequent tracks for future bridge vids also had to be considered, since this is a continuing collection that has to make sense when you see it together on a DVD. That's why I decided to stay with this CD to keep the same pace in all future vids.
Thanks again for your input :)

I was thinking more of 0:19 and 1:05 as having slight tilts - don't get me wrong though - there's definitely more flat than not!

You're right, the 2:21 pan does start off perfectly flat, but you need to level your tripod in both dimensions (left/right AND forward/back) for such high-degree pans, otherwise by the time you've come 90degrees, the camera is tilting down to the left. You're right - there's no accounting for sand!

Obviously, you might WANT to use this effect to give the footage an unsettling feel, but in this case I think you want to play off the bridge's eminent 'flatness'(!)

Oh, and BTW, the seal footage is priceless...

    :-D

    Cool beans,

Great stuff. I really like that you chose to follow a bridge topic. Agree with the above - some of the clips were off horizontally.

The fact that the start had synced music and cuts was nice. It takes forever, though, when editing... so thankyou for taking the time to do it.

The polarizer did a great job.

Nice one. I like the close up detail shots on the bride and the pans under the bridge had a nice look to them

    Thanks Brian.
Those are big bolts and nuts :)

This bridge is a 'new' one but they kept some of the old
art deco pillars when demolished the original built in the 30's

Always take a few shots from the bridge... sort of gives a nice wrap-up for the stucture.

Sweet. I love the way you framed
the bridge with the clouds at 1:27.

Also got great taste in music man.
    Massive Attack-Mezzanine.
haven't heard them used for these
    vids before. good stuff.

    Thanks dude :)
Am doing all the bridges in Oregon.
I have tons of good footage, but use only few clips for vimeo.
Hope to put one bridge video on every week... if I can get to those things in a short time.

    Nice work.

    Hi Pierre!
ya know, they have DVD's of all the lighthouses in Oregon but none for the bridges.
These bridges are so cool with the art deco design.
Hope to record and upload one-a-week.

I finally got around to watching this one. Another fine effort. Not sure about the background music, but that's probably the "old fart" in me. I look forward to the rest of your bridge series.

Thanks for your observation and I hope you like all 'my' bridges.
End of this month going out to record more of them.
I have a long way to go (60 bridges) before the project is done.
The DVD will use better shots and music more suited to people who appreciate these things. For Vimeo, I had to do something more contemp. music.

I'm not very familiar with the Oregon geography but perhaps, since Fall will be here before you know it, a few bridges might lend themselves to include some colorful foliage clips.
