By following his deep seated passion for opera, David Morelock transformed his career as a language teacher into one of a nationally and internationally renowned Opera Stage Director. His work has been seen and admired in New Orleans, Seattle, Pittsburgh, Knoxville, Cincinnati, Hawii, Mexico City, Vancouver, Tel AViv and the Netherlands. As stage director for the New Orleans Opera Association David has amassed a unique record, fifty-three productions of forty-one different operas in the past thirty-five years. He brings to his stagings high standards, thorough preperation, an appreciation of styles, an extensive backround in the history of opera and theater stage design and the ability to work with artists in a variety of languages. As head of Opera and Musical Theater at Loyola's College of Music and in his work with NORD, David has encourages and helped train a number of young artists that have gone on to sucessful opera careers.
The Arts Council of New Orleans each year celebrates the Community Arts Awards. Since 1977, the Community Arts Awards have recognized living individuals, organizations and corporations which have made outstanding contributions to the arts in New Orleans. Recipients are continue selected for their artistic excellence, sustained contributions, unique achievements, perseverance, and a deep commitment to the arts and local community.
