This is bad ass. What a great location. I notice that a lot of your shots tend to sort of jump and waver a bit. I can't tell if it's your tripod shaking or maybe your lens on auto focus? Anyway, gorgeous.

THNX... Yeah, the jumping bums me out. Definitely wasn't on auto focus as I have learned that lesson before. This was shot in a pretty crazy dust storm (you can see it at moments) and even my weights on the tripod didn't keep it steady.

    humm..

How did you make the HDR? have you HDRed every single frame?

    this is really interesting :)

I was wondering the same thing. If so I admire your dedication.

Hey guys... yes every frame was done as HDR but it was done with a batch process in Photomatix. Here is a blog post on my full work flow for this. It is a bit of a process but i think it can lead to some great results. This is one of my first attempts at it so it should get better!

great stuff Chad. Seems like you get to interesting places. On the ones I do I now do 2sec apart with AF and that seems to stop the jump. How'd you do HDR? -JP
  • Chad Richard plus 1 year ago
JP - the workflow for HDR time-lapse is a bit daunting... I posted my workflow here:

Applause! Your HDR videos are awesome. BTW, you can get rid of the jumping and waving by bringing the footage into a compositing program like Shake, After Effects, Motion or whatever you like. In most programs the technique you want to use is called "Stabilize".

Great work. You are truly a king of Time lapse. Do you plan to use an HD camcorder to shoot? I guess you can't do/extremely difficult to perform many operations like hdr on a video stream.
