This is an old video I made in 2004.

That's like one of the best pieces I have seen on Vimeo.

    Hands down, Brilliant.

i had to watch this twice to truly enjoy it. The first viewing, all i could think about was how many hours it must've taken you to erase the background from between the bicycle spokes in every frame.

great work and i appreciate the amount of time, effort and talent that went into making this.
  • Leob 2 years ago
ummm I didn't have to do that - the character on the bike is a stop motion articulated 'puppet' made from digital photos in the animated sections. no bluescreen/rotoscoping on this one

Whoa, you made this? i remember seeing this video a long time ago up on antville and thought it was pretty dope. I had downloaded it and still have it in my computer.

Can you talk more about how you made it?
  • Leob 2 years ago
Sure, it's stop motion done on 3 layers of perspex with a video camera mounted above looking down. So I had one layer for background, the middle and the front. I collected all the images from encyclopaedias and the internet, and then moved all the bits of paper frame by frame for about 6 weeks...
  • eat a bug 2 years ago
    Sheezus.

    So, 1st, you filmed background.

    Next middle, then foreground?

Did you key it out in After effects or are all 3 layers seperated by pieces of glass?
  • Leob 2 years ago
no, it's all in camera, all layers filmed at once. although if I made this now that I know after effects i might do it layer by layer. the shadows are nice though
  • eat a bug 2 years ago
How did you seperate the layers?

Love the shadows and three-dimensionality of it. I'm beginning to wonder if stop motion and accordions have some sort of natural affinity...
