Ooh! I loved it! Is there a translation of the Japanese somewhere?
  •
  • @Tod Robbins

There's some interesting discussion about the Japanese dialogue on the comment thread over at Metafilter.

Impressive quality - anyone know what bit rate the source file and subsequent encoding are?

Great short film! The story and pacing are excellent with a really convincing 'past'. The submarine is built excellently - very convincing. Good acting and tied up with a well-suited soundtrack, too.

The special effects are decent enough, but something visually struck me as being not as film-y as I prefer. Perhaps the framerate or colour-correction? Also, the zoom on the rocks feels very out of place. These are minor gripes though. I loved it!

Lovely film, I really enjoyed it. I am curious why it's billed as a steampunk film, is it not just a period piece? Great job all around.

I can answer that one. Because mechanical squids are inherently steampunk. Well done on the film! It is gorgeous and leaves me wanting much more!

A really great film! Um, was there a plot in there though? I think maybe I missed it? No, no, of course it was there. I must have missed it.
Also, incoherent Japanese speaking, octopus submariner is very steampunk.
Overall, you're quite a filmmaking champ.

Awesome. Absolutely love the art direction, and the scenery is just hauntingly beautiful.

I miss some of the cinematographic tropes (color correction, framerate of 25, 2,35:1 letterboxing, etc.) but these are all just personal preference, and don't detract from the movie in any way.

    Very, very impressive work.

Well done and beautiful scenes! The details were really a treat from the close-ups of the calligraphy to the squid ink. Loved it.

Very nicely done. All aspects were covered and executed very well.
Good luck with this project. Your team should be proud.
