For 25 years Figlio was a fixture of Calhoun Square. Its $2 happy-hour house wine made it an ideal watering hole in which to get plastered on the cheap and still maintain a semblance of class. In November the Uptown mainstay was reincarnated as Italian seafood-centric restaurant-bar Il Gatto, which features a darker, more rustic ambiance—and, we're happy to report, a happy hour as agreeable as its predecessor's. Every day between 4: 30 and 6: 30 p.m., three bucks gets you not one but one and a half glasses of wine, which (whips out calculator) comes out to be a familiar $2 a glass. The same price goes for well drinks and domestic tap beer—and thankfully, unlike most bars, Il Gatto's definition of "domestic" includes Shock Top Belgian White, Goose Island 312, and Longhammer IPA, among others. Some first-rate bar food goes for the same rate, including cod sliders, mini pizzas, mini burgers, and hot potato chips sprinkled with parmigiano-chive sauce. Bonus: Late-night happy hour runs from 10: 30 p.m. to 12: 30 a.m. Sunday through Thursday.
