Magic Fingers. 1986. This Disturbing Song with the Capital "D" is as ugly as White Boy Tell-all Suburban Rock can Get. PERIOD ! Pre-Greenhouse_Effect Clark Hagins_Solo Demo Tapes 1986 "Magic Fingers" Early Years. - "MY Babys' Gettin' Pregnant,...I've over-heard her say,....etc..." So begins a Song BOTH SO cringe generatingly controversial as it is Accoustic-Drum Rock down-right Beautiful. This Who-Tommy meets Black Sabbath "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath-like" opus is a long drawn out winner of an idea very much unlike anything normally from Clark Hagins and or Greenhouse Effect,....Ofcourse though, there is nothing 'normal' or "Formula" to G.e. EVER who change in Song just like the Weather going from "Precarious" to "Coke Snorting" to "Ben is Dead" to "White Black" and beyond. "I thought up that idea sometime in either 1985 or maybe 1986,...it could have been at Dave Basen's House in Torrance,...but I'm pretty sure it was up at the Owlwood Estate in Bel Air whilst Mowing Lawns or blowing Leaves; "My babys' gettin' Pregant - I've Over-heard her say,...shes' gonna Live it up,..its not much of a pain ,..its no skin off her ass to go,...Down to the clinic where ,..if shes' got 200 Dollars they'll take Good care of her,...'Set her up with the needle man ,..who'l end it all ,..- with a snap of his fingers - ohh" - Recorded maybe quite Sometime after 1985's "Maury A Lad Insane, Soviet, and "Boy",...."Magic Fingers" certainly tries to Level the playing field of rightwing and left-wing of Hagins Songwriter ideas; "Some People thought that I was this miserable and unhappy Communist or atheist (Laughs),..or just maybe some right-winger dude who was playing "Devil's Advocate" annoyingly menacingly and in an 'agitating' manner with those first three Early Songs,....Ofcourse "Maury" being the most shocking what with it's "There is no God - there is no God" refrain. Actually, I very much believe that most of my music is exactly as my brother Jeff once described it,..it is "Opinions of Life",..but in a writing style that is too clever that can "hurt" but either way you slice me and my music up - 'that' is and always was certainly WHAT G.e. was all about; People have been out to hurt me for as far long back as I can remember, so with my ability at Song,..I am out for a sort-of "revenge' beyond justice; I am certainly out to hurt people right back,....and I KNOW HOW TO DO IT" says Hagins. Hagins says that his music is also an aim to "Prove" once and for all that he certainly is 'NOT' the dumb guy that his family and much of the South Bay paints him out to be; "I have to prove to people that I'm not stupid,...and my music accomplishes this,...But I knew way back then ,..even in 1986,..that I was gonna have to work real hard,....My music was gonna have to be deep and challenging ,..almost "Prog-Rock" maybe sorta like "A trick of the tail" era type Genesis,....I 'knew' that I didn't wanna just be in some dumb run-of-the-mill typical punk rock or metal band,...even if it meant me going nowhere - atleast forever I can say I was an "Original" ,..atleast compared to the rest of the crap in the South Bay. When I would see someone like Tom Shannon from Death & Taxes,...someone who was deep and creative ,...'THAT' would move me,..it would move and inspire me ,..to 'compete' musically,....I knew I could challenge ANYONE,....I FEARED NO ONE,...I just knew my music was better in the Long run,....I may not be the best in the World,...But I wanna be damn different - 'THAT' is the key,....and I accomplish that" - "Magic Fingers" stands today as an accoustic driven South Bay Songs classic - and it isn't even a Greenhouse Effect Song ! This "Anti-Abortion" Masterpiece sets Hagins apart from the rest of the pack musically, politically, EVERYTHING !! "It may seem like too smart smarty alec White-Boy pop ,..that is set to offend little grrrls and riot guys,..but I don't give a shit what people think of it - OR ME" says Hagins. "Magic Fingers is a classic,....One of the best Songs that I have ever written". "Its a wickedly confused mixed up song from a poor little pathetic mixed up guy who is desperately trying to "Get Normal" as he takes some well planned and organized swipes at the Liberal intelligencia he sees all around him. "More like the Liberal "Apologencia" says Hagins. "...And ...I don't apologise for this or ANY of my little Songs...Wade into it and Go for it - You'l love it.." - Pre-Greenhouse_Effect Clark Hagins_Solo Demo Tapes 1986 "Magic Fingers" Early Years. This Majestic Song was Recorded at South Bay Sound Sometime in 1986 by a 21 year old Hagins playing and over-dubbing all instruments.....Either recorded by Dan Jamale or Bill Rothenberg it is unknown. The track certainly has a "Mid 1980's feel" to it as some cheesey keyboards and "Church Bells" ring through out,..as dreamed up by Hagins to compliment the "Angelic" Sky-ish Melody....
