A 90-minute feature documentary for the Discovery Channel written, co-edited and associate-produced by Kim MacQuarrie. Winner of two Emmy Awards, a Cine Golden Eagle, and awards at the New York, Denver and Chicago Film Festivals. Narrated by Linda Hunt. Journey into the heart of Peru's remote Amazon rainforest and into one of its remotest parks, Manu National Park and Biosphere Reserve, a massive park half the size of Switzerland. The film explores the work of three biologists studying Giant Otters, Squirrel Monkeys and macaws, and also an anthropologist (Glenn Shepard) who lives with and studies the Machiguenga Indians, who once had contact with the Inca Empire. Shepard has close ties with the tribe's shaman, Mariano, and through him is introduced into the Machiguenga's spirit world.
