PES General Secretary tells European Metalworkers We are with you at Brussels Demo

(22 April 2010) For the last 100 years European Metalworkers and European Socialism has marched side by side. The PES will stand by you in this latest fight. So said PES General Secretary, Philip Cordery, in his address to over 1000 Metalworkers from all over Europe. The demo was organised to protest against rising speculation on commodity prices, which is pushing up prices and pushing out jobs. The PES General Secretary said that the financial market should be designed to improve real workers lives. A Banking Sector shouldnt speculate on job losses, the transition to a Green Economy should be a fair one, a green planet means all the world regions taking actions at the same time. The European Commission is due to take a decision on compensation schemes for passed on electricity costs due to rising prices, but does not intend to launch the schemes until 2013.
