i try to do little things to make our planet healthier.

like my new love of composting. i get a kick out of throwing banana peels and organic scraps into a big vat of stuff. just knowing that worms and other creatures are chomping on the decomposing matter and crapping it out creating luscious, nutrient rich soil makes me happy. yeah.

i love the word luscious.
let's say it again. luscious!

i think i will try to incorporate the word luscious in every thing i say today.

Yo're an exemplary US Citizen! And this is a funny ad for composting. Be careful with grass-cut, this can kill the life inside.
  • Loonachic 3 months ago
good to know! thank you :-)

i was thinking....most european cities have composting programs, don't they? i wonder why the US hasn't implemented anything like that yet.

    we're a bunch of tardies.

Yo, the regular people - without a garden or composter - use the "green bin" which will be emptied every 14 days. They bring the waste in a big composting factory, where you can buy the made soil (earth) if you like.
  • Loonachic 3 months ago
excellent! a win win for everyone.

We've had no problems with grass cuttings, so far.
  • ojo 3 months ago
You lucky one, I had to rearrange a whole heap and add chalk cause of grass. After that we put only thin layers in it.
  • Loonachic 3 months ago
what does the chalk do, ojo?
  • ojo 3 months ago
I'm not shure, it neutralizes something, also it' not only "chalk", I have to find the correct description in english. But don't worry, your compost is a small one.

I'm very attached to my compost heap. You can also add paper kitchen towels and their cardboard tubes. I used to add stale bread, until I discovered that it was being eaten by our local grey squirrel population.
  • Loonachic 3 months ago
    this is good to know!

i'm getting attached to my heap even though it's an infant. i love looking at the decomposing material. i find it fascinating!

Only SteveR could have a compost heap that is infiltrated by Squirrels.

We have a hedgehog that plunders our compost heap for worms at night. The cat had a go at him once...Im not sure if she was defending her territory or trying to shag the spikey critter. She watches from a distance now.

where did your compost bin come from?

i sorta do that. i call it Dead Pile. but its mostly weeds and crap. and then every now n then i mix it up with a shovel and crazy bugs come running out and i scream like a little girl and jump around.
  • Loonachic 3 months ago
